Application Practice 2013

Human Resources

The Centre of Human Resources Information Systems of the Universities of Bamberg and Frankfurt, in cooperation with Monster Worldwide, has published the tenth edition of the study series Application Practice , once again offering an insight into the German-speaking recruitingworld from the candidates’ point of view.

We find the following results particularly interesting:

  • From the applicants ‘ point of view, online job portals are still the most effective tool in the job search. Furthermore, 60.1 percent use career networks for passive job search.
  • More than 50 percent of respondents are in favor of using social media applications in recruitment. However, only Xing is a really relevant social media channel for searching for jobs and information for the respondents. Other networks, such as LinkedIn or Kununu, are hardly given any importance.
  • In the search for vacancies, mobile recruiting is increasingly coming to the fore. However, its implementation is still treated quite stepmotherly by job boards and companies. More than half of those surveyed want to use their smartphones to search for jobs on online job boards and almost 45 percent want to search on company websites on their mobile devices, but have to struggle with display problems. In addition, interactive elements, such as videos in job advertisements, are increasingly desired.
  • In general, applicants have precise ideas about their future job and employer. Above all, the working atmosphere, career prospects, flexible working hours, work-life balance and an open approach to knowledge are important to them.
  • During job interviews, it is no longer only the applicants who are put through their paces, but also the impressions of the interview play a decisive role in the acceptance or rejection of a job offer for the candidates. For 60.3 percent of respondents, the job interview has already led to the rejection of a job.
  • e-assessments and IT-based candidate selection procedures are well received by respondents. 27.5 percent like tests in the form of online games. Three out of four respondents have already been confronted with an online test as part of the selection process.
