The job market is constantly changing and constantly evolving: As part of the 2016 Sourcing Study, new findings emerged with regard to the topic of outsourcing. The associated results provide well-founded indications of the role that outsourcing of individual work areas already plays today and will continue to play in the future.
The most important key messages of the Sourcing Study 2016
The 2016 Sourcing Study was conducted online and includes the information provided by over 1,000 managing directors and managers from the IT industry. All participants came from German-speaking countries and the overarching goal was to analyze motives and recent developments in the field of outsourcing. According to the respondents, the importance of outsourcing IT tasks will continue to increase: Around 90 percent of the participants stated that their company had not yet fully exploited the potential of outsourcing. A large proportion of the decision-makers surveyed are therefore aiming for increased outsourcing in the next five years. Furthermore, the study results illustrate the connection between increasingly complex work processes and the increased demand for outsourcing services: Accordingly, one in three survey participants is dissatisfied with the performance and expertise of their own IT department.
The survey results in detail
In addition to the figures on the importance of outsourcing IT tasks, the sourcing study also provides concrete information on the reasons: For more than half of all respondents, saving costs is the most important reason for outsourcing. More than a quarter of the participating IT managers also cited the acceleration of work processes as a reason for outsourcing. In addition, skepticism regarding cooperation with external service providers has decreased significantly: Only 40 percent expressed legal concerns, while in the 2015 sourcing study, more than 60 percent were still afraid of the unclear legal situation. When selecting appropriate service providers, price and technological know-how were named as the most important criteria. In addition, the study provides new insights into the assessment of outsourced work processes: According to the study, more than 90 percent of all participants surveyed were satisfied with the services of the service partners, which speaks for a high quality standard of outsourcing offers in the IT sector.
Overall, the 2016 Sourcing Study shows the ever-increasing importance of outsourcing IT tasks. The advancing digitalization in a wide variety of industries and the satisfaction with external service partners suggest that this development will continue.
